DIY Square Sweetheart Neckline Top

There are truly so many ways you can refashion a basic shirt, and this is one of my favorite. Give a basic shirt some 90s vibes with this simple DIY transformation. Here’s how to turn a regular top into a square sweetheart neckline top in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Gather Materials

What you’ll need:

Step 2: Mark Shape

Use your ruler and colored pencil to mark the square shape at the front of the shirt. The lines should be made just slightly outside of the existing neckline.

Step 3: Cut

Cut along the lines on the front to create the square neckline. Then, cut straight across the back right under the neckline to remove that strip of material.

Step 4: Add Ruche Effect

Pinch the material into tiny folds at the center of the neckline in the front. Then secure the folds together using your needle and thread to create the ruched/sweetheart neckline effect.

It’s that easy! In just a few minutes, you’ve turned a regular shirt into a trendier top that will add some spice to any outfit.
