I’ve been all about halter tops and matching sets this summer, so naturally, it was time for a project that paired these looks. Here’s a no-sew DIY way to transform a pair of pants into a cute matching halter top and shorts set! Enjoy. ๐
Step 1: Gather Materials

What you’ll need:
- Semi-loosely fitting pants
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Fabric scissors http://amzn.to/2lpapZM
- Fabric glue http://amzn.to/2qor51E
- Iron

Step 2: Measure & Cut Shorts

Mark spots about 3-4 inches below the crotch area on each of the pants leg. Then, draw lines straight across each leg and cut slightly below the lines that you just drew.
Step 3: Roll/Fold & Iron Shorts

Next, roll or fold the bottom of each leg up to your desired length (my rolls/folds were about 3/4 of an inch). Then iron the folds to make sure they don’t come undone.
Step 4: Glue Shorts

Take your fabric glue and slightly dab it along the inside of the folds so they stay in place. Then, let the glue dry for a couple of hours.
Step 5: Cut Halter Base from Pant Legs

Take the bottom portions of the pant legs that you cut to make the shorts and cut the elastic ankle portion off if your pants have them. Then, cut them each down the middle seam to open them up. Next, place on layer of material on top of the other. This will be the base for the front of your halter top.
Step 6: Cut Halter Shape

Cut diagonal lines from the sides up to the top, creating the basic halter shape. Then, trim the top and bottom to your desired length. Next, cut a “v” shape at the top center of the halter.
Step 7: Create Straps

Use the excess material you just cut from the halter and cut each piece into 3 even strips, then stretch them out. Next, leave two of the strips long (top straps) and cut the rest in half (side straps).
Step 8: Attach Top Straps

Cut two small slits at each side of the top of both halter flaps. Be sure not to cut too close to the edges so the slits don’t rip through. Then, push one of your 2 long straps through one hole and out the other. Do this on both sides of the top. These straps will tie around the back of the neck!
Step 9: Attach Side Straps

Once the longer top straps are attached, it’s time to add the side straps. Cut 4 small slits down the edge of each side of the top. Again, be careful not to cut too close to the edge. Then, tie each shorter strap through each hole. These straps will tie in the back!
All done!
That’s it! You’ve now successfully transformed a pair of pants into a summery matching set! Thanks so much for checking out this tutorial and please let me know if you try it out. ๐

This is a really cute tutorial ! You can use Steam-A-Seam to hem them as well. I do that when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to hem with my sewing machine !
It’s nice to see DIY projects !
